NEMTAC Advanced Mobility Device Securement Training in Tampa
Every day, NEMT drivers are trusted to move passengers who rely on wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility devices. How that securement is handled shapes the whole ride. Done right, it protects the passenger, protects the driver, and reflects the kind of service every provider wants to be known for. Done wrong, it puts everyone at risk.
That is why NEMT Standard is proud to be an authorized instructor for the NEMTAC Advanced Mobility Device Securement course, a nationally accredited program built around one goal: safe, respectful, compliant transport for passengers who use mobility devices.
Why This Training Matters
Securement is not just a box to check. It is the difference between a passenger arriving safely and an avoidable injury. A well-trained, empathetic driver makes a real impact on a passenger's safety and their quality of life. This course pairs that hands-on skill with an understanding of passenger rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), so your team is equipped to deliver a transport experience that is both safe and dignified.
What the Course Covers
The program is built in two parts, combining online learning with in-person practice.
Part One is an online course covering the recommended guidelines for safe mobility device transportation, including:
Proper body mechanics
Equipment overview
Safe lifting and loading
General mobility device operations
Service animal procedures and the ADA
Passenger exiting procedures
What to do if a passenger falls from a mobility device
Part Two is an in-person, hands-on session that reviews and reinforces everything from the online course. Students work directly with experienced instructors to practice the skills that matter most:
Hands-on skills review of mobility devices
Properly securing mobility devices
Operating a vehicle lift
Certification You Can Count On
Once participants complete both the online and hands-on portions, they are certified for two years in Advanced Mobility Device Securement through NEMTAC's nationally accredited program. Certificates are issued after both sessions are finished.
